MEMORY ROOM

Wellesley Spatial Investigations (Spring 2016)

The goal of this project was to build a model of a room from our memory without seeing any photos or asking for measurements. I chose my childhood room that I shared with my sister. It was a challenging exercise in physically defining our relationship with space and perceptions of it.

TEXTURE STUDY: BRANCH

Wellesley Introduction to Drawing (Fall 2015)

The various textures of the branch was captured using charcoal on paper and it defined the form and movement of the object.
This was the second time I tried charcoal in years and I was scared of making mistakes with it at first. However, I learned to not fight with the medium and to just let it flow.

POSITIVE NEGATIVE SPACE: MOBILE

Wellesley Introduction to Drawing (Fall 2015)

What is normally seen as the background became the focus to give the object its form. The challenge was to see the background as individual shapes that would piece together a representation of the object in the foreground. This drawing was done with charcoal on paper.

LIGHT STUDY: CRUSHING

Wellesley Introduction to Drawing (Fall 2015)

A model inspired by the German Expressionist movie, "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" was made using cardboard and hot-glue. Then it was drawn using charcoal on paper. Here I had the opportunity to play with lighting, its direction, intensity, shadows, etc.

FINAL PROJECT: INTERACTIVE GIANT ORIGAMI LAMPS

Wellesley Introduction to Drawing (Fall 2015)

It's quite fascinating how a flat piece of paper can turn into a three-dimensional form that can take on a life of it's own.
